Minimum Age to Ride on Back of a Motorcycle
Motorcycles are an exciting way to travel, but when it comes to passengers, especially children, there are important safety and legal considerations. Parents and guardians often wonder: Is there a minimum age for riding on the back of a motorcycle in Kentucky? Understanding the law can help you make safe and responsible choices for your family.
Kentucky’s Motorcycle Passenger Age Requirements
Unlike some states, Kentucky does not set a specific minimum age for motorcycle passengers. However, that doesn’t mean children of all ages can safely or legally ride. Kentucky law requires that passengers use a footrest and a seat which are permanently attached to the motorcycle and specifically designed to carry them in a safe manner. This effectively prevents very young children from riding because they are not tall enough to reach the footrests.
